A newsletter that might interest some of you!
Browsing my friends of friends list, I found comicstore_news, a daily newsletter dedicated to the LJ community for comic book based fandoms and other fandoms that are featured extensively in comic stores. I thought I'd mention it here because I didn't see a lot of the Avenger fen I know of on its flist, and I thought it would interest you. :)
Change sucks.
My old laptop finally died tonight yesterday evening, and because I had work to do, Shog had to rip out its hard drive so that I could transfer my files to my new laptop and carry on—and it feels like I'm fucking a stranger. Windows 7 is nothing like XP, and adjusting to it is going to wreak havoc upon my productivity.
It also didn't help that when I was finally able to start working again, a spider landed on one of the lenses of my glasses. That was startling. *sighs*
As well, I usually wake up at five in the morning, and it's almost 2:30 now! Today is probably not going to be a good one (unless I sleep through it, that is).
In lieu of chocolate, I will now go suck on ice cubes and watch something completely mindless to help me wind down from the delights of the day, while trying to be mindful and grateful of the fact that at least I had a replacement laptop standing by. That said, I haven't even named it yet, it seems so foreign to me.

89 minutes of my life that I will never get back
That's how I feel about "A Scandal in Belgravia." I'm disappointed to be feeling this way because I adored the first season of Sherlock, but beyond a few enjoyable moments, "Scandal" is so compressed and impressed with itself that it left me cold. I'm not even interested in reading the fic. *sighs*
In Consequence (G; the Wilkins, Hermione; 200 words)
Recently, a friend asked me how I thought that the Grangers would react to learning how Hermione had protected them before leaving to hunt Horcruxes with Harry and Ron. This is my answer.

Skipping warnings in headers
Does anyone know how to format a warning line in a header to skip said warning? Here's an example of what I mean.

I keep hitting refresh on the Exchange's page, but nothing happens! *impatient*

Question: Professor Sinistra
In book canon, is Professor Sinistra's house ever given? I know that it's popular fanon to give it as Ravenclaw, but to the best of my recollection, there is nothing to prevent one from writing her as being in one of the others. Am I right about that?
Is this cool or not?
Shog thinks the Nubrella looks cool, but he's not sure if it would really work or not. I'm not sure I'd want to pay $50 for an umbrella hat. What do you think?
(Shog's birthday approaches, hence my question.)
ETA: It's cool enough to go on my Christmas list, but now that I've decided that Shog wouldn't use it because it won't fit into his bag, it's not cool enough for me to blow $50 bucks on.

The caption of this creepy Precious-Moments-related photo is what makes me really shiver. It's probably redundant to call anything related to Precious Moments figures "creepy," isn't it?
Shog wants to try a bacon taco shell; I told him no. I also won't let him make a "Manwich." From his disappointment, you'd think I was feeding him only crumbs.
Apparently, the Bombshell Butt Workout is part of a free online series. I doubt I'll ever try any of them, but watching this one is plenty entertaining.
Here's a vid in which a cat discovers that sometimes, entertainment fights back. *cackles*
For the sake of tiny zoo patrons, it's good that some "entertainments" don't have a way of truly getting up close and personal.
Here's Jonathan Coulton's song, First of May, performed in American Sign Language. Teach yourself to say something new! (NWS.)

Brief Produce Week update
Success! Shog ate roasted Brussels sprouts with red onion, garlic, mushrooms, bacon, and toasted pecans! The mushrooms do not belong in the dish; they work against the crispy elements of it, so I'll leave them out next time. But! Shog also ate quinoa! I'm so pleased. *dances* We each had a quarter marinated, grilled chicken breast to go with it, and I ate some grilled asparagus (Shog says that perhaps one day he'll try it again, but he has bad memories of asparagus that he's not ready to let go of *snorts*).
Oh, and for lunch today, I made bacon, spinach, tomato, artichoke, and cheese sandwiches on 7-grain sourdough, served with chips, dehydrated green beans, and carrot sticks. Shog ate that meal, too—and, in fact, was happy to see the artichoke because he'd been craving it!
Victory is mine!
In other news, Albus knows how to open the baby gate if I don't latch it. I thought he would just try to push in, find that he couldn't, and give up, but no, he sticks his nose through the grate and pulls. This is significant because he scared the shit out of me this evening when I dropped some bacon. I turned to pick it up, and he was sitting there wagging his tail for more. He's also been opening cabinets again, the food mooch, so I must latch!
Our neighbors' cat is currently spraying the yard, having discovered that an enemy cat passed through it earlier, and the girls are experiencing chicken-related torpor. All is well.

In which a CVS customer receives a diagnosis
So, while waiting in line for a 'script this morning, I overheard a guy and his friend talking about one of the women in front of us. She was a tad on the heavy side without looking, to my eyes, unhealthy in any way, but the little shits were being really ugly about her while she stood there, her back tense, overhearing everything. I wanted to say something, but I was afraid that it would ( only embarrass the woman further. )
An end to winter meals!
My favorite meal of yesterday was dinner, which was a plate of marinated/brined and raw veggies (artichoke hears, baby carrots, kalamata olives, portobello button mushrooms, and string beans), a few small slices of dill Havarti, a handful of blue corn chips, and some raw almonds. I love "grazing" meals, especially in warmer weather (although yesterday was rainy and cold), so I'm dedicating this a produce week. There will be some meat, but it will be sparing; Shog says that he's up to try new things (which translates into "Yes, I'll eat vegetables and fruit"), and I think we must move away from meat-centered meals for a while because of my husband's "back issues." The only issue, I think, is that his front's grown so large that it's causing his back to strain, no matter that Shog would have it that he's sleeping the wrong way. *snorts*
I went to the Wegmans, and I have the following produce ( with which to work )
Today should be busy. I need to record receipts (which means checking the bank to see what receipts Shog never told me about), balance the checkbook, pay bills, redo the budget, clean the kitchen and prepare vegetables for cooking, make menus, do laundry, clean the cat box, organize my office, and straighten up in general (which includes shifting a lot of Shog's belongings to permanent homes for them which I must find). I have a few things to pick up from the grocery, the pet store, and the office supply store. I also have a package to mail and appointments to make—as well as more editing to do! *looks at list* I don't think I'm going to accomplish all of this, especially as the list isn't complete. o.O
Poor Albus will be sad later today because it's raining too hard to go to the groundhog hill, and Mondays, I usually take him. *pets routine-loving dog* The girls are pleased by the rain, however, because it means the heater's back on; they're currently all clustered around it, girding themselves against the dog's return from his outing with the walker. And now I see that I'm just procrastinating, so I'd best get to work! *waves*

Four last prompt answers for April!
Okay, I lied: I've answered four more prompts and will shortly be altering my monthly wrap-up for April. Pray I do not alter it further. *cackles like a darth*
Lord of the Manor (NC-17; Lucius/Girl!Harry; 1050 words): After awakening with Lucius, Harry is in no doubt that he likes cock, Lucius' almost more than his own. (Follows Lady in Waiting.)

In the Greenhouse (NC-17; Neville/Pansy, Neville/Luna; 400 words): There are no delicate flowers in the greenhouse.

Monthly Wrap-Up: April (with commentary): ETA
ETA: I went and posted more fic. I'm sure you're not surprised. :P
This month, I produced 16 femslash offerings,27 28 gen offerings, 31 32 het offerings, 26 28 slash offerings, and one offering that defied categorization, for a total of 101 105 HP fandom offerings—one five more than my goal for April!—and a total of 36,538 38,238 words. *dances* I'm quite proud of myself for exeeding my writing goal, and I had loads of fun doing it; thank you, everyone who prompted me, and much love to those of you who were kind enough to comment on my fic. *hugs* To you lurkers out there (and thank goodness for stats): I hope you enjoyed what you read. :D
( A few issues came up this month that I'd like to discuss )
Now then, issues addressed, I'd like to point out that because of how I've categorized my wrap-up, the (consecutive) numbering of the fics under the cuts is just to prove how many of them I actually wrote in April; it does not designate the order in which I posted fic this month. If you're interested in seeing my April fic in posting order, please see my archive/calendar.
One last thing: if you disagree with how I've categorized any of the fics below, please see my discussion of Issue One under this post's first cut. *smooches flist; waves to lurkers; presents101 105 April drabbles/ficlets/fics*

P.S. Yes, my posting the wrap-up this early means that I won't be writing any more fanfic this month (ETA: Ha!); RL's demands beckon, so if I'm not around much during the next few weeks, don't fret. (ETA: And now that I've added four more fics to this wrap-up, I probably won't be posting any more this month.)
Oh, and because I have avain need to crow about it desire to look on the bright side of things, I take leave to tell you that my total word count for this month (and this includes RL-related fiction and non-fiction) is 78,593 80,293. *twirls* There is at least one benefit to being cyclothymic. :P I do miss sleeping, though. Perhaps next month . . . .
